Top 10 Ways to Get Involved with the IRC
The number one question we get in the beginning of the year, especially from incoming freshmen, is “How do I get involved in the International Relations Club?” Look no further. Although by no means an exhaustive list, here are the top ten ways to get involved:
- Pay your club dues and become a member of GIRC. Once you are a member of the club, you will have access to all our on-campus events and traveling programs over the course of the year. Dues are $10 (including the GIRC t-shirt, designed by Anupam Chakravarty), and can be paid at our table in Red Square, during our General Interest Meeting on September 14th, or during other GIRC events.
- Sign up for our email list. The best way to be sure you are hearing about all of GIRC’s events, as well as internship opportunities and other relevant programs around campus, is by signing up for our weekly email. To subscribe, email LISTPROC@GEORGETOWN.EDU with the following body message: SUBSCRIBE IRC-L FIRSTNAME LASTNAME.
- Follow us on Twitter. GIRC is now on Twitter! Our Twitter username is GeorgetownIRC. Follow us for up to the minute updates on GIRC programming, and whatever else comes to mind.
- Visit our table at SAC Fair. GIRC will be tabling at SAC fair on Copley Lawn from 12 PM – 4 PM on Sunday September 6th. Visit us to hear more about the club, meet board members and other veteran members of the club, buy the GIRC T-shirt, pay club dues, and learn about our exciting upcoming events.
- Visit our table in Red Square. Can’t make it to our table during SAC Fair? Don’t fret, because we will be tabling weekdays from August 31st to September 11th in Red Square, where you can do practically everything you can during SAC Fair.
- Attend the GIRC General Interest Meeting. The General Interest meeting is a prospective member’s best opportunity to hear more about the club in depth from each of GIRC’s board members, and to sign up for upcoming events, including Meet the Board and AGMUNC. This meeting will be held on September 14th at 8 PM, so save the date and watch here or find us in Red Square for the location.
- Apply to staff NCSC and NAIMUN. Each year nearly 200 GIRC members participate in staffing the college and high school Model UN conferences hosted by our sister organization, GIRA, Inc, a student run not-for-profit corporation. Find out more about the staffing experience at the NCSC/NAIMUN General Interest Meeting on September 16th at 8 PM, location to be announced soon.
- Sign up for and attend AGMUNC. Interested in joining our Conferences Program? Sign up for GIRC’s intramural Model UN conference, the All-Georgetown Model United Nations Conference (AGMUNC), the gateway to the Conferences Program. No experience necessary! AGMUNC I will take place on Saturday September 26th from 10 AM to 5 PM and signups will occur at the GIRC General Interest Meeting.
- Apply for a Sub-Board position. Want to take a leadership role in GIRC? Take a look at the new list of sub-board position descriptions here on the website (list will be available shortly). Applications will e sent over the listserv in the early part of the year and will also be available here on girc.modelun.org. Applications will be due September 18th and interviews will take place during the weekend of September 19th-20th.
- Sign up to Meet the Board. Have any lingering questions about GIRC that weren’t answered during the General Interest Meeting? Meet the Board, to be held from 4 PM to 7 PM every day from September 15th to 18th in Midnight MUG on the Second Floor of Lauinger Library, is a great opportunity to ask those questions and get to know the board in a smaller group atmosphere. Signups will be available during the General Interest Meeting on September 14th.
