IRC Weekly Update

October 26, 2009

Home Page Twitter Blog Facebook

Members of the Georgetown International Relations Club,

Thanks to everyone who donated and participated on GuluWalk. The event was a great success!

This week we have an exciting array of events both on campus and off campus. First, this Tuesday we will be co-sponsoring an exciting and highly-qualified panel of speakers with TASA on Cross Strait Relations to mark Taiwan’s 60th Anniversary. It will examine Chinese-Taiwanese relations, a topic of significant importance to the future United States relationship with China. I encourage all members who come to the event to ask probing questions of the panelists, in the spirit of the IRC’s desire to gain a deep understanding of major issues in foreign relations such as this topic.

We also have two exciting social events to commemorate important events on the calendar. This Thursday, October 29th, is Turkish National Day, and the IRC is partnering with the International Students Association to host a cultural dinner at Cafe Divan here in Georgetown. Details are below.

Also, this Friday, upperclassmen members of the IRC will lead a group to Embassy Row for Trick-or-Treating! For those of you who have never been, this is a great cultural experience unique to Washington DC, as well as a fun way to celebrate Halloween!
This weekend, the IRC will be sending a team of 20 to the Security Council Simulation at Yale (SCSY). If you know anyone traveling to the conference, wish them luck!

On a final note, I’d like to point members to our blog, at http://www.georgetownirc.blogspot.com, where you can read new posts from the ED of NAIMUN, Matthew Shapiro, as well as a take on NCSC and traveling to CMUNNY from two of our freshmen, Rachel Farell and Michael Lopesciolo.

Happy Halloween!

Michael Karno
Chair, Georgetown International Relations Club
