Members of the Georgetown International Relations Club,

4. Georgetown Journal of International Affairs
At the Journal, we are celebrating our eleventh anniversary with exciting new changes. Check out the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs’ new website!
The Journal is your best resource for insights into the most salient issues in the field of international affairs. Our innovative and thought-provoking Forum section invites contributors’ expertise and perspectives on a single topic of particular relevance to our changing world. Recent Forums have focused on “Trial on Trade,” “Women in Power,” “Dynamics of Dissent,” and “The Future of Food.” Each issue also contains a range of articles on politics, diplomacy, security, law, culture, and technology written by leading policymakers, analysts, and journalists from across the globe.
Our upcoming Winter/Spring 2010 issue is “Sacred Earth,” including articles from scholars and practitioners examining conflicts over land experienced between indigenous peoples and a wide variety of actors. From Papuan struggles against the mining industry in Indonesia, to the clash between Western and indigenous notions of real estate in the South Pacific, to the Maasai’s attempts at state recognition of land claims in Kenya, indigenous peoples around the globe are engaging modern notions of land ownership to claim the right to continue their traditional way of life and live on their sacred earth.

5. Grameen Foundation Ingenuity Fund Challenge
Grameen Foundation, an organization that works to create a world without poverty by delivering microfinance and technology services to the world’s poorest, recently announced an exciting new opportunity to win a trip abroad to witness its programs in action – the Ingenuity Fund Challenge. Through the Challenge, individuals can inspire others to support Grameen Foundation’s work through their own fundraising campaign. Challenge participants will develop individual fundraising pages on Grameen Foundation’s Web site, and use their personal networks, social media and other offline activities to raise awareness. The most “ingenious” participant with the most creative fundraising page and outreach effort will win the grand prize – an amazing opportunity to travel overseas with Grameen Foundation to see how its microfinance and technology programs are making a difference on the ground.

6. Sanitation NOW – New Opportunities for Women
“Internship” Opportunity
Sanitation NOW – New Opportunities for Women is a nonprofit founded by Georgetown students that focuses on sustainable development through sanitation and other public health means for women and children. This past year, Sanitation NOW was able to get projects off the ground in Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh and Kenya. Sanitation NOW is a finalist for a large grant from the UNDP!
As such, the organization will need some help putting together a presentation for January 2010. Sanitation NOW is looking for 2-3 “interns” to help formulate slides, talking points, memos, folders, etc for the presentation. Moreover, you may have the opportunity to help out on their upcoming projects in Central Asia!
UNDP will provide transportation and lodging up in New York, and interns will get a chance to meet Helen Clark (former New Zealand Prime Minister, current UNDP Administrator) because she will be part of the panel.
This is the perfect opportunity for Hoyas who are creative, very independent and true team players. If that sounds like you, feel free to contact Sanitation NOW founder David Lee (dhl32@georgetown.edu) for more information!
