GIRA Delegation Wins “Best Large Delegation” Award at CMUNNY IV!

CMUNNYThe Georgetown International Relations Association, Inc., is proud to announce an extraordinary performance by its delegation to the fourth annual Columbia Model United Nations in New York (CMUNNY IV). GIRA’s team of 12, which included a number of first-time delegates, won Best Large Delegation, narrowly edging out an excellent team representing Harvard University. The winner in the small delegation category was McGill University, followed by the George Washington University placing as runner-up. Perhaps most remarkably, all twelve members of GIRA’s team to CMUNNY IV were recognized for important contributions for their committee. Never in the recorded history of GIRA or GIRC has a team accomplished such a feat. This 100% award ratio is all the more impressive considering the number of first-time crisis delegates that traveled with this year’s CMUNNY team. Individual committee awards broke down as follows.

Anupam Chakravarty (SFS 10)- Kurdistan Worker’s Party Central Committee, 1995
Grant Gibson (SFS 12)- Roman Senate, 45 BC
Michael Karno (SFS 10)- Committee of Public Safety, 1793

Hijab Shah (SFS 11)- Pakistani National Security Council

Verbal Commendations

Perhaps most importantly, GIRA’s team built great bonds in New York, both with other delegations and with each other. An excellent time was had by all. GIRA’s mission of furthering international affairs education was advanced by the superior level of debate and the high degree of enthusiams that its delegation brought to CMUNNY IV. Congratulations to GIRA and to the members of the CMUNNY IV team!
