AGMUNC II Keeps Delegates on Their Toes

AGMUNCOn Jan 23, about 45 IRC members met in White-Gravenor for AGMUNC II – the second All-Georgetown Model UN training conference. Grant Gibson and alumnus Matt Hipple led a joint crisis between Colombia, Venezuela, and the Organization of American States, in a fast-paced, hectic diplomatic frenzy.

Members of all skill levels, from those who had never participated in MUN before all the way up to senior delegates, had a blast as a minor disagreement on surveillance planes and confusion over a business contract evolved into a South American brawl of epic proportions.

Within a few hours, the OAS had kicked the US out and placed sanctions on Colombia for reasons still to be determined, hundreds of Colombians and Venezuelans had been kidnapped and executed at random, the Venezuela Minister of Intelligence had been kidnapped by the Mossad and brought to Colombia for interrogation, and what seemed like half of the buildings in Colombia’s capital had been blown up in terrorist attacks. Not to mention Venezuela’s destroyed air force and the start of a regional war, with Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela facing off against Colombia and Peru.

The action was intense, the debate was fun, and the results indicate that it might be best if IRC members don’t pursue careers in foreign service … for the rest of the world’s sake.
